Healthwatch and Health White Paper

HealthWatch Engagement Document Published

The Department of Health have just released a detailed consultation paper on establishing HealthWatch.
It sets out key issues and questions for LINks to consider as well as answers to some common questions.
It states the Health White Paper is clear on ’what’ HealthWatch should do. It now wants to consult on
’how’ it should work to achieve its aims.

At the last Regional LINk meeting a series of questions were asked about HealthWatch. Attached are
answers to these questions based on information received following the meeting at the Department of Health
on 23rd July at which Lianne Langdon attended along with two LINk Chairs from the region.

NAVCA White Paper Briefing

Attached is the NAVCA briefing on the Health White Paper; Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS.
The briefing has been written to outline the most significant elements of the white paper for NAVCA members
and to help them understand the implications of the proposals in it for the local voluntary organisations they
support. It will also help NAVCA members contribute to further consultations on the white paper, which are
taking place over the coming months.

Please keep free the morning of Tuesday 21st September for the next Regional LINk event which will focus
on discussing questions in the HealthWatch Engagement Document

White Paper aimed at the wider voluntary and community sector. The event in our region is as follows

Regional Consultation Events on the Health White Paper

The White Paper on Health has the potential to create one of the biggest changes to the structure and function

of the NHS since its creation in 1948. Within the White Paper there are 5 consultations which are all open until

early October.

During September, Regional Voices will be hosting events in 9 locations across the country for the third sector.

These will give you the opportunity to learn more about the proposed changes through the White Paper as well

as having the chance to attend three interactive consultation workshops during the day to discuss issues in depth

and to provide feedback directly to those leading on the consultations from the Department of Health.

The events will:

• Raise awareness of the proposed changes and stimulate informed response to the consultations
• Help third sector, patient, service user, carers and community organisations understand how the White Paper

will impact on their work and the opportunities it presents.

• Identify some of the cross cutting issues of particular relevance to the sector
• Provide a forum to develop understanding of the role of the Third Sector in emerging health structures
• Provide direct feedback to the Department of Health on the consultation areas
